Larry and Linda at AIA Competition
The AIA (American Institute of Architects) will bring one of the World’s largest Sandcastle?building competitions back to Galveston. For decades this has been one of the Family Friendly extravaganzas of the Summer. It’s not just sandcastles like you build with the kids for an hour. These architectural masterpieces have to be seen to believe. They are huge! They are unique! They are magnificent! They are a must see! Tons of sand goes into the making of everyone of the sixty plus entries. Most of these creative designs will take hours to build by teams of expert sandcastle builders.
AIA Sandcastle Competition;
The competition begins promptly at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning the 4th of June. East Beach is this events traditional home, and this year is no exception. Arrive early so you can see how a massive pile of sand, the size?a garage, can be turned into a work of art. Sand & Beach Art, but art nonetheless. Arrive late and you will miss this magical moment in time. Judging begins at 3:00 PM and this competitive event is over after the 4:30 PM Awards ceremony. Once high tide comes onshore the competition is really over. Bring your camera as you won’t believe what these?architects and engineers can build in a few hours.
Pay attention to the tools used and techniques that they employ. It truly is remarkable what they can do with a few billion grains of sand. Your children will be very pleased as well. Lot’s of these competitive team entries aren’t castles at all. Some are famous cartoon characters. Others are automobiles. Lot’s of animals will be developed. Seascapes are common. You won’t know until you know, what the team next to you is erecting. No matter what these geniuses decide to show us, you can be certain that it will be impressive. Most of the time you won’t even believe what you are seeing. Yes, it is that amazing. It is also fun, lots of fun. Fun for the entire family regardless of age. Hope you can attend this wildly popular and unique event. Don’t forget you hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, & camera . . . . . . you will be disappointed if you do!
