Galveston Summer 2018

Posted by Marilyn Swanson on
 May 1, 2018

Galveston Summer 2018 is projected to be one of the best in recent memory. Spring 2018 on Galveston Island has been without any major storms and the temperatures have been mild as well. Traditional Spring Freezing Canadian cold fronts did not reach Galveston this year so we have been and still remain calm and mild during Spring 2018. As each day brings us closer to the Memorial Day Week-End, Galveston prepares for the huge Holiday visitor population. Memorial Day Week-End is the traditional “Kick-Off” event to Galveston Summer 2018. Make plans early if you intend on staying over night. A sell out for accommodations will be a certainty. Come early and stay late. Don’t miss out on the fun. If you need a place to crash on Memorial Day Week-End?Call Marilyn at 281.773.4210. She can assist you in securing the best available accommodations.

The Beach and Gulf of Mexico is the obvious big attraction. Everything plays to it and revolves around it. Bring beach clothes. Everybody wears beach clothes almost everywhere. Sunscreen, don’t forget the sunscreen for you and the kids! If you need beach clothes and / or sunscreen after you arrive in Galveston, both are available at all the expected locations. Hats, sunglasses, and cover-ups are also going to be needed for your stay to be comfortable. Early season SUN tends to be stronger than most people realize. Therefore, beware of sunburns. Take care of your skin. Keep applying it to your children throughout the day. They really have no concept of the dangers of too much sun! If possible bring, rent, or buy a beach umbrella. Shad can be your best friend when having fun at the beach or on the water.Galveston-Summer-2018-Beach-Umbrellas

Fluids are important. Drink Plenty Of Water. I know many of you enjoy adult beverages when having fun but mixing alcohol and sun don’t mix well. However, if you do, . . . drink a bottle of water every now and then. You can thank me on Tuesday when you back at home or work!

One final thought. If you are going to fish anywhere . . BUY a Fishing License. They are required by State Law. Fishing without a fishing license will be an expensive mistake if you get caught and written up by a Game Warden.

Free Things To Do In Galveston

Posted by Marilyn Swanson on
 July 1, 2017

There are Free things to do in Galveston. In fact, ?there are many Free things to do in Galveston. Care to venture any guesses? Okay let’s run through or identify some right now. First, you can go to the Beach. Once you have arrived at the beach you can sun bathe, walk along the beach, build sand castles, wade into the water, swim in the water, body surf, or use a board. All of those things are Free. You may be required to pay for parking. However, that depends on which beach you select.

Our Favorite Free Things To Do In Galveston:

The Galveston Ferry?System travels?from the East end of the Island to Bolivar Peninsula. At the North end of 4th St. you can take one of the Ferrys across the Houston Ship Channel to the Bolivar Peninsula. The trip is absolutely FREE. Bolivar and beyond has a small collection of beach homes, beach bars, and beach restaurants. Okay, there are a few beach stores located there as well! It is pretty beachy on the peninsula to say the least. However, the Ferry Ride is my point here! You can walk onto the Ferry, ride a bike on, or drive your car or truck onto Galveston’s Free Ferry Service. This ferry service is funded and operated by The Texas Department of Transportation. The Ferry Service runs 24/7 except during extreme weather or emergency conditions.

The Ferry ride is one of the coolest Free things to do in Galveston. Why, you may ask? It is cool because the ferry ride takes about 20Dolphins Image of Free Things to do in Galveston minutes. During the ride across the Houston Ship Channel you will be followed by hundreds of Sea Gulls. And a few other assorted water fowl. The birds are playful and they are in hopes of you throwing some food for them to catch. The birds are really good at catching what you throw. The kids will absolutely love this activity. The adults enjoy it too! If you don’t like birds go inside the ferry or stay inside your car.

Watching Dolphins Are Free Things To Do In Galveston Too!

On this same Free Ferry Service you will receive the Ride, the Birds, and you will get Dolphins too! At least 70% of the time you make the trip the Dolphins are out playing. They will swim right beside the Ferry in both directions and are very playful. Parents and kids alike will be entertained by these spectacular mammals of the sea. My experience has been that between 5 and 20 dolphins will swim along side the Ferry. It’s my favorite part of the trip.

Some more Free things to do in Galveston include the following. Additionally, you can collect shells at the beach. You can window shop in the Strand Area of Galveston. You can fish for your dinner. You can watch some really big ships journey into and out of the Port of Houston at the Ship Channel. You can catch crabs for dinner or bait. You can people watch. This is by no means the end of the Free things to do in Galveston, however it is the end of our discussion today! Oh yeah! If you need a place to stay give us a try at Galveston Tropical Condos.
