Dickens on The Strand is an annual event held in Galveston, TX during the first weekend of December. Charles Dickens and his writings about 19th century?Victorian London, England are the events focus. December 1-3, 2017 are this years dates. This event is a “must experience” if you have never attended. It should be in your Bucket List. It is that unique to be sure. People come each year from all over the World to experience what happens in our backyard.
Dickens on The Strand;
Costumes bring?this event to life. Everyone is encouraged to dress like the folks did in London during the 1800’s. You just won’t believe how everyone gets into this. Pirates, Chimney Sweeps, Ladies of the Evening, Police, Peasants, and the very Wealthy will all be represented in costume. Thousands of costumed folks will fill the streets of The Strand during this years Dickens on The Strand. Costume Rentals are available at several Galveston locations.
Parades?are plentiful. They will feature bands, horse drawn carriages, civil war era dressed participants.
Vendors?will be everywhere displaying their wares. Beverages, food, art, and more.
Entertainment?is non stop. If you dress up you will be part of the entertainment. At least half of the attendees dress for the occasion. Discounts are often given to those who dress the part by vendors as well as entry fees. Several Stages are scattered throughout Dickens on The Strand where much of the entertainment will be featured. And yes costume contests are part of the fun.
If you get involved and dress up, your experience will be greatly enhanced. Don’t forget to bring a camera because you will take more pictures than you can possibly imagine. Each day offers different and quite unique events. Charles Dickens Great Great Grand Daughter will attend this years events. She will be hosting a breakfast with Victorian style at the Aston Villa. Autographs and Book Signings will also be available here. Bring your Charles Dickens books and get them autographed. Get your picture taken with her during the Breakfast as well.
