Galveston Mardi Gras is the third Largest Mardi Gras Celebration in America. Our first Mardi Gras celebration was held way back in 1871. It featured two Krewes that held parades, parties, masked balls, and developed fabulous costumes. Galveston Mardi Gras 2017 will have many masked balls. This year 22 parades are scheduled. Hundreds of floats will roll down the parade routes. Balcony parties will be nearly everywhere that a balcony exists. 400,000 attendees are expected to come and enjoy our 12 days celebrating Galveston Mardi Gras 2017.
Marching Bands will be a big part of each parade. The parades will be held along Seawall Blvd., usually from 21st St. to 61st St. Galveston’s Downtown “Strand Area” will host parades as well. A few are held in both areas. Parade Routes and times are available in the Galveston Daily News. Vendors will be plentiful for all your Mardi Gras needs along each parade route. They will have an exotic collection of Beads from which you can select.
If you attend a Seawall Parade feel free to bring your own Food and Beverages. Bringing your own Downtown is prohibited. There is also an entry charge for Downtown festivities while Seawall Parades are absolutely FREE! Get to the Seawall early and plan to stay all day. Thousands of folks set up camp sites with tents and motor homes for the entire week end. People will be cooking everywhere you look! Okay, they will be consuming adult beverages too! If you don’t get there early (by 10:00 AM for the noon parade on February 18th) you will have to park many blocks away and walk into the parade route. Bring some chairs too! You will thank me for that tidbit!
Galveston Mardi Gras 2017 will be a family friendly event. The parades will excite the little ones and so will the floats, the “throws”, and the marching bands. Don’t miss Galveston Mardi Gras 2017. It will be our biggest Mardi Gras?ever!!! See you there. If you need accommodations call Marilyn. Galveston Tropical Condos are always a great choice for Galveston Events.
